Minimum Qualifications

The Distribution Electrician Supervisor ( DES ) position oversees personnel performing overhead and underground distribution system restoration and troubleshooting related activities. This position supervises System Restoration and Trouble field personnel development, work assignments, performance, incident completion and switching. The ideal candidate will have the following: experience working as a Distribution Electrician Troubleshooter; experience safely providing oversight during normal day, shift work, storm mode, and incident command; experience working with and providing detailed information and documentation to internal and external customers; and the ability to review and present analytical data to direct reports and management. This supervisor position will require, but not limited to, the following job duties and responsibilities: enforcing and enhancing safety; scheduling and providing field staff to cover normal shifts and additional shifts as needed; mobilizing and demobilizing field staff during storm mode and incident command; performing site visits and field crew audits; assigning, organizing, monitoring and analyzing incident completion for field staff; reviewing processes and documentation for accuracy and improvement; conducting routine meetings with field staff; and interpreting, explaining and enforcing City policies, procedures, building codes, specifications and ordinances.

Work Schedule:

  • This position is categorized as Essential Personnel with the City of Austin. Essential staff are required to work during emergencies or bad weather if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled. Essential employees ensure the continuance of key operations for the City of Austin.

  • Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekends

  • Shifts may change according to departmental needs.

  • Employee may be required to work additional hours outside of regular work schedule.

  • Experience locating and working with incident reporting, distribution, personnel, and time management software programs such as myCority, Advanced Distribution Management System ( ADMS ) DMD /Field Client, Workday, UKG , and Smartsheet; or similar programs.

  • Experience working within a Quality Management System ( QMS ) such as ISO 9001 and completing required documentation.

  • Experience assisting with developing, training, performance reviews, and evaluations of field personnel.

  • Experience monitoring compliance and communicating safety issues to field personnel.

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

  • Assigns, organizes, and monitors task completion for work group.

  • Interprets, explains and enforces City policies, procedures, building codes, specifications and ordinances.

  • Communicates with schedulers regarding work orders.

  • Monitors safety issues for work group.

  • Operates line work tools and equipment.

  • Performs repair, installation, maintenance or removal of electric utility facilities and equipment as required.

  • Performs emergency electric system restoration as necessary.
